Why is Julia Fox’s Halloween costume sparking backlash? Actress defends her bloody Jacqueline Kennedy look as "beauty and horror"

Julia Fox made headlines for her choice of costume for this year's Halloween. The Uncut Gems actress attends The Cursed Amulet Halloween party on October 30 in New York dressed as a bloody Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, a picture depicting the icon after she survived her husband, President John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963.

Fox wore a replica of Onassis' pink suit, but with blood stains in it, paired with the pink pillbox hat. But while it is on-brand with the horror theme, the costume also sparked backlash online, with some critics calling the costume tasteless and widely inappropriate, according to Parade. Vogue's political correspondent Jack Schlossberg also called her costume "glorifying political violence," per Page Six.

However, the Uncut Gems actress shared a statement on Instagram on Friday, October 31, defending her outfit.

"I'm dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit. Not as a costume, but as a statement... The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation."

She also called Onassis' refusal to change her blood-stained clothes even after being encouraged to and let everyone see what they had done to her husband as "an act of extraordinary bravery." Julia Fox further wrote about what the outfit symbolizes:

"I was performance, protest, and mourning all at once. A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality. It's about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance."

She ended her post with, "Long live Jackie O."

Her bloody Jackie Kennedy Onassis Halloween costume aside, it's not the first time Julia Fox gained plenty of attention because of her fashion choices. She stunned the event with her quirky style at the recent amfAR gala at The Chancery Rosewood in London on October 17. She wore a white maxi dress with a dramatic puff sleeve and a balloon-bottom skirt.

The glow was adorned with pastel yellow flowers and dramatically showed off Fox's hourglass figure. She also wore a matching white platform heels that added height to her slender frame and completed the outfit with delicate white lace gloves.

It's also not her only bold outfit of choice for the month. The Uncut Gems actress turned heads with an outfit from Robert Wun's Fall 2025 Couture collection a few days prior at the Liberatum Cultural Honour Gala in London. It was an ivory satin cone bra paired with a white slip and a black-and-white pinstripe hat. She also wore the matching pinstriped skirt with a floor-length train.

Julia Fox also carried a matching leather bustier-shaped bag with the same pinstripe blazer to complete the outfit. However, she opted not to wear the pinstriped gloves with pointed finger-like nails that were part of the ensemble when it debuted on the runway in Paris. The outfit showed off her toned midriff and her slender arms.
