Why Darnell Nurse is requesting a trade from the Oilers, including a specific teams list

Darnell Nurse has played the seventh-most games in Edmonton Oilers history.

Now, he wants out. Nurse is requesting a trade, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman in a breaking news report on Thursday.

Friedman's colleague Mark Spector had already reported a week ago that the Oilers want to trade Nurse.

Now, Nurse has gone "to the organization and said he would like to be traded."

Why is Darnell Nurse requesting a trade from the Oilers?

Simply put, Nurse is ready for a fresh start.

"He now feels it is time for him to move on," Friedman writes.

Nurse has come under fire in recent seasons for the decline of his defensive abilities, and he may feel he wants a change of scenery before he gets too old to make the most of a fresh start.

Trading Nurse won't be easy, because he has an annual cap hit of $9.25 million through 2029-30.

Where does Darnell Nurse want to go?

Nurse has a full no-trade clause, so he has control of his destination.

According to Friedman, Nurse has submitted "3-5 teams" to the Oilers that he'd like to join. The Sportsnet insider hasn't yet reported who those teams are.

Wherever Nurse goes, the Oilers will have to retain some of his salary in a deal, but it'll help Edmonton to get some of it off their books.
