Why Chad Tracy has real chance to shed interim manager tag for Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are one of the best stories in Major League Baseball during the 226 season. They went from a team that fired their manager, Alex Cora, and looked likely to sell at the trade deadline, to being one of the hottest teams in baseball.

A 15-game winning streak and a massive mid-season resurgence under Chad Tracy have Boston right back in the thick of things in the AL East and the AL as a whole.

With how good things have gone lately, a question naturally pops up: what will happen to Tracy after this season? Karl Rasmussen of Sports Illustrated noted how there is a real chance that Boston sheds Tracy's interim manager tag for the full-time job after this year.

"The Sox have vaulted themselves back into postseason contention under Tracy's watch, and their impressive summer could result in the 46-year-old shedding the interim tag during the offseason," Rasmussen writes.

While the Red Sox didn't exactly have a great start to Tracy's tenure, as the team was still struggling to get things going, by August 29, they're now 63-44 with Tracy as the manager.

Boston's winning percentage with Tracy is .589, which would be more than good enough for a postseason spot, and could also give the Red Sox reason to bring him back.

He's only 46 years old, and his hiring has seemed to work quite well for this Red Sox team. It's sometimes hard to tell if a manager is good or not, but what the Red Sox have done with Tracy is hard to ignore.

As long as the Red Sox make the 2026 postseason, Tracy will have a good chance of returning as the full-time manager beyond the 2026 season.

But a deep postseason run, or even a World Series win, would completely squash any questions, as the Red Sox would surely keep him into the future in such a scenario.

For now, though, Tracy's future remains up in the air. But the signs are pointing towards the Red Sox keeping him long-term, as he's done nothing to suggest the Red Sox should do otherwise since taking over for Cora earlier this year.
