Who won the Australian Open last year? Women's singles champion

Aryna Sabalenka def. Zheng Qinwen

Sabalenka claimed consecutive Australian Open crowns when she beat Qinwen Zheng in the 2024 final.

After a thrilling decider against Elena Rybakina the year prior, it was more straightforward on this occasion, with the Belarusian winning 6-3 6-2.

She took just one hour and 17 minutes to win her second career major.

The world No. 1 remains the favourite to take out the title again in 2025.

Iga Świątek — who has never gone all the way in Melbourne — is considered her main contender as we enter the semi-final stage.

Jannik Sinner def. Daniil Medvedev

Novak Djokovic was unable to add to his record haul of 10 Australian Open triumphs last year, with Jannik Sinner dispatching him in the semi-finals.

The Italian would go on to beat Daniil Medvedev in an enthralling men's singles final, coming from two sets down to win 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3.

The three-hour, 44-minute effort was Sinner's first grand slam title.

Now the world No. 1, Sinner is considered a strong contender to go back-to-back.

Djokovic, as always, is in with a genuine chance to reclaim the crown in 2025, while Alexander Zverev is considered the closest potential challenger.
