The Philadelphia Phillies underwent some significant changes over the last day or so, with all of the roster moves occurring in the outfield.
They first traded for Derek Hill from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, and then a day later, got the confirmation that Adolis Garcia is going to miss a lot of time due to a serious injury.
In the wake of that Garcia injury, the Phillies announced that they are calling up outfield prospect Gabriel Rincones Jr. to the big league roster. But who is Rincones Jr.? And how will he impact the Phillies' outfield?
Meet new Phillies outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr.
As the Phillies announced Friday afternoon, "... Recalled outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. from triple-A Lehigh Valley and will wear No. 17."
Rincones Jr. joins the Phillies outfield, taking Garcia's spot on the MLB roster, and will wear No. 17, last worn by Max Kepler in 2025, Rhys Hoskins from 2017 through 2022, and Scott Rolen from 1997-2002.
According to MLB Pipeline, Rincones Jr. is the Phillies' No. 6-ranked prospect. The 25-year-old is a left-handed hitter and a 2022 third-round pick by the Phillies.
This season at Triple-A, in only 12 games after coming back from injury, he has a .628 OPS in 46 at-bats with two doubles and no home runs.
But, back in 2025, he had an .800 OPS at Triple-A in 119 games with 18 homers, 73 RBIs, 22 doubles, 81 runs scored, 80 walks, and 21 stolen bases.

During 2026 Spring Training, Rincones Jr. hit .217 with a .988 OPS, thanks to a .609 slugging percentage due to three homers on five hits in 23 at-bats.
As MLB.com's Paul Casella notes, Rincones Jr. will be the left-handed hitting platoon partner with new right-handed hitting outfielder Derek Hill going forward this season.
Rincones Jr. will face right-handed pitching, like he's doing Friday night against Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski, and Hill will face left-handers.
The Phillies' new outfielder will enter a platoon with Hill with Garcia out for much, if not all, of the rest of the 2026 season. Rincones Jr. is a fun prospect with some pop, who is finally making his MLB debut on Friday night with a tough test against Misiorowski.
