The Kansas City Chiefs will square off against the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day in Week 17, and neither Patrick Mahomes nor Gardner Minshew will be under center for the defending AFC champions.
Mahomes and Minshew are out for the year with knee injuries, meaning Kansas City is turning to Chris Oladokun to be the starter for the rest of the season.
Oladokun saw his first NFL game action last week versus the Tennessee Titans, but he is still a fresh face to many. Let's meet the Chiefs' starting quarterback replacing Mahomes and Minshew.
Who is Chris Oladokun?
Oladokun played six seasons of college football from 2016 to 2021, including three at South Florida, two at Samford, and one at South Dakota State. Though he received eight starts with Samford in 2019, his lone season as a full-time starter came in 2021, his final year in college, with South Dakota State.
During the 2021 campaign with the Jackrabbits, Oladokun tossed 25 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, leading South Dakota State to an 11-4 record.
After a successful season with the Jackrabbits, Oladokun headed to the NFL, where he was a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was released by Pittsburgh during final cuts and found a home in Kansas City afterwards.
Oladokun has been with the Chiefs since, winning two Super Bowls on the practice squad. He made his first NFL appearance against the Broncos in 2024, but his true debut came in Week 16 of the 2025 campaign versus the Titans.
In Tennessee last week, Oladokun completed 11 of 16 passes for 116 yards in Kansas City's blowout loss. The 28-year-old will now get his first career start in Week 17 against the Broncos at Arrowhead.
