Who is Brian Madjo? Meet the Aston Villa teenager who became youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history

The summer 2026 transfer window has been a tough one for Aston Villa.

Despite qualifying for the Champions League for the second time in three seasons and winning the Europa League in 2025/26, star attacker Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea in a £ 117 million ($156.5m) move.

That was after Manchester United paid the release clause for influential midfielder Youri Tielemans, leaving boss Unai Emery without two of his key lieutenants heading into the new campaign.

But Emery is one of the most resourceful coaches in the game and his Villa side pushed European champions Paris Saint-Germain all the way in Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup final in Salzburg.

That was thanks, in no small part, to a breakthrough attacker who is sure to catch the eye in the Premier League this term.

Who is Brian Madjo

Brian Madjo is a teenage striker who joined Aston Villa from French club Metz in January 2026 for a deal worth in the region of £10m.

FIFA prevented Villa from registering Madjo due to its rules that state international transfers cannot take place until a player is 18 years old.

However, Madjo was born in London and holds a British passport, factors that were central to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) finding in Villa's favour on August 4, 2026.

By this stage, the youngster had already scored four times during the Birmingham outfit's pre-season friendlies, and it meant he was ready for competitive action against the European champions.

Madjo was selected in the Villa starting lineup by Emery for the UEFA Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain at the Red Bull Arena.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a typically brilliant opener, but Villa were level on the stroke of halftime.

Madjo had already passed up two good chances in an all-action showing and got his reward when he lashed John McGinn's cross into the roof of the net.

Desire Doue's second-half goal earned PSG a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Which country does Brian Madjo play for?

Madjo played in three international friendlies for Luxembourg, the country his parents moved to when he was young, in 2025.

However, he was able to switch allegiance because none of those games were competitive internationals, and he has since played nine times for England Under-17s, scoring four goals.

Along with being eligible for England and Luxembourg, Madjo could also represent Cameroon, as his parents are from the African nation.

His father, Guy Madjo, was a footballer who played as a journeyman in England's lower leagues. In 2016, Guy Madjo was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for sexual assault. A hearing was told he was playing football in Gabon at the time, and the trial went ahead when he failed to return to the UK.

Brian Madjo is 17 years old. He does not turn 18 until January 2027, highlighting the importance of Villa's success with their CAS appeal.

At 17 years and 212 days, he became the youngest player to score in the UEFA Super Cup, comfortably surpassing the previous record set by Patrick Kluivert of 19 years and 220 days.
