The Chicago White Sox and general manager Chris Getz have a very exciting problem on their hands this season, as the team's strong record has Chicago as a serious candidate to buy at this year's MLB trade deadline.
Getz adding talent to this team is a very exciting idea, and there are only a few questions worth asking. What positions will the White Sox target, and how can they upgrade the roster without mortgaging the future?
MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com shared some insight into the former question, revealing three positions the White Sox and Getz could target this summer.
White Sox could target these three positions by MLB trade deadline
"There are a number of ways the White Sox can go about this," Murray writes. "They can target an outfielder. They can target a starting pitcher who can replace Erick Fedde in the rotation now and fill a spot going forward. They could target bullpen help, though relief prices are always expensive in July and August."
With Getz eyeing some upgrades to the roster this summer by the August 3 trade deadline, the outfield, starting rotation, and bullpen are three areas worth keeping an eye on.
Outfield trade options
Adding to the outfield would be a big help for this team. Sam Antonacci (.763 OPS) might have a starting job on lock, along with Tristan Peters (.803 OPS).
But, unless Braden Montgomery can continue where he left off with his impressive MLB debut, the White Sox could use another outfielder. At worst, they could use an extra option who could slot into the designated hitter job over Andrew Benintendi.
Someone like Mike Trout would be very fun, though completely unrealistic. Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu would be interesting options, as the White Sox and Boston Red Sox connection could grow with another trade this summer.

Starting pitching trade options
Looking at the rotation, it's clear this group could use some help this season. Fedde isn't good enough this season, and while Davis Martin and Sean Burke have looked good, this team needs another starter to compete in October.
Someone like Freddy Peralta or Tarik Skubal, one-year rentals, would not make sense for this White Sox team, as both are free agents after 2026. They need a long-term option.
Instead, someone like Sandy Alcantara (under control through 2027), Reid Detmers (2028), or some other multi-year option would be preferred for the White Sox.

Bullpen trade options
Finally, the bullpen is a little worrisome, with Seranthony Domínguez being shaky, and a lot of their other options are not the star relievers that can be trusted completely come the postseason.
Similar to outfield and starting pitcher trade options, the White Sox need multi-year relievers. Aroldis Chapman might be the best target for Getz this summer, since he's under control through 2027 and is the best reliever who could be on the move.
There are plenty of interesting rentals, but the White Sox might need to be a bit more careful when it comes to finding someone to upgrade the bullpen this summer.
