White Sox reportedly 'working hard' to trade for solution to Kyle Teel injury

The Chicago White Sox are going to be buyers at the 2026 MLB trade deadline, and there are a few areas they could look to address by the August 3 deadline.

While the starting rotation is an obvious need for this team, the White Sox do have another area of the roster they now need to address in a big way.

According to Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the White Sox are "working hard" to trade for a catcher to replace the injured Kyle Teel.

"The Chicago White Sox, facing the loss of Kyle Teel for 8 to 12 weeks, are 'working hard' to acquire a catcher, according to a person briefed on their plans," Rosenthal and Sammon report.

With the injury to Teel likely lasting until deep into the regular season, if not potentially even into the postseason if his recovery is on the longer end of things, the White Sox need to find a way to upgrade their catching depth chart.

Currently manning the position are Drew Romo and Edgar Quero, both of whom cannot be trusted as full-time catchers due to their poor offensive performances.

Romo has a .130 batting average this season with a .521 OPS in 115 at-bats, while Quero is hitting .183 with a .482 OPS.

Teel wasn't playing lights out either, but now that he's out for a while, the White Sox need to find a legitimate upgrade at the catcher position.

Ryan Jeffers probably isn't a feasible option, but Hunter Goodman of the Colorado Rockies, Shea Langeliers of the Athletics, Liam Hicks of the Miami Marlins, and Tyler Stephenson of the Cincinnati Reds are options the White Sox should consider.

The market for catchers is thin, and the White Sox will have to compete with the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Rays with this need. The Los Angeles Dodgers might get involved as well.

Regardless of who the White Sox are targeting in a deal right now, they're reportedly "working hard" to swing a trade this summer to upgrade their catcher spot.
