The Chicago White Sox could emerge as a very tough out in this year's postseason.
Remember, this is an organization that lost 121 games two seasons ago. Now, the roster and mindset of the front office and coaching staff are very different.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden wrote Monday that the White Sox are one of the many clubs that could pursue bullpen help at this year's trade deadline.
"The White Sox are looking to go from last to first just like the Blue Jays did last year. Their path would be easier if they add to the rotation and the back end of their bullpen," Bowden wrote.
One trade partner they could consider is the struggling Boston Red Sox.
Both the rotation and bullpen are areas of need for Chicago, so Bowden sees a world in which the White Sox could target a Red Sox pitcher from both parts of the roster.
"I think they should target both Aroldis Chapman and Sonny Gray of the Red Sox, but should be willing to consider all possibilities, including an in-division trade with the Royals," he added.
A potential White Sox-Kansas City Royals trade is a topic for another day.
Chapman, now a nine-time All-Star, would be a great addition to the back of Chicago's bullpen.

Even at age 38, the left-hander is dominant against hitters from both sides of the plate. Chapman has struck out 35 batters in 26.2 innings while walking 12.
The cost to acquire a closer like Chapman won't necessarily be cheap, but the White Sox may find a deal that's worth it to make a deep postseason run.
