It is Machado Garry's (15-1) first fight since losing against Shavkat Rakhmonov in a UFC welterweight eliminator fight. The Irish fighter, ranked seventh in the division, competes in his first headliner. He hopes to impress and move back up to championship-level fights.
Ranked 13th, Prates (21-6) is a former Muay Thai and kickboxing champion. "The Nightmare" won four fights in 2024.

Prates is on a path similar to his opponent. The underdog, Prates, a member of the popular Fighting Nerds, is ready to halt Machado Garry's momentum.
"He's in the UFC for four years, if I'm not mistaken, and never headlined a card," Prates told MMA Fighting. "He only won one bonus, poor guy. And now he has the opportunity to be the main event, an opportunity to make more money.
"First, because he took this fight on short notice only because they offered him a lot of money. And second, he's the main event. After this fight, even though he'll get a beating, he'll thank me for the opportunity I gave him to make good money."
