Three rounds of the 2025 NFL draft have come and gone and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has yet to be drafted. And, as you might expect, the team considered most likely to end his draft slide is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
According to BetMGM, the Steelers (+360) are favorites to select Sanders on Day 3 of the draft. The top five is rounded out by the New York Jets (+550), Dallas Cowboys (+600), Las Vegas Raiders (+600) and Los Angeles Rams (+600).
Sanders' slide has been shocking, to say the least. Chalk it up to whatever you like, almost nobody expected the Colorado product to fall past the first round.
The Steelers are one of the quarterback-needy teams that has passed on Sanders multiple times. Pittsburgh had a chance at him at the No. 21 and No. 83 overall picks, but opted for defensive lineman Derrick Harmon and running back Kaleb Johnson, respectively, instead.
On Day 3, the Steelers are first on the clock at No. 123 overall overall in the fourth round. Pittsburgh also has one selection in the fifth, sixth and seventh rounds.
Even if the Aaron Rodgers waiting game ends with him signing in Pittsburgh, the Steelers still need a young quarterback for the future. Set to turn 42 in December, Rodgers is only going to give the Steelers a year or two and not having a young quarterback will leave the Steelers back in the same boat they're in now once Rodgers retires.
Sanders would have the opportunity to sit behind a future Hall of Famer for one year, which gives him extra time to develop in the hopes he can take the reins in 2026.
While we can't say for sure that Sanders will pan out to be a franchise quarterback, we do know a room with both he and Rodgers would be pure cinema — and that's not even mentioning the Deion factor.
