Where Lakers' Luka Doncic, LeBron James rank in new Top 100

The Ringer updated its Top 100 NBA Player Rankings on Tuesday afternoon, and three Los Angeles Lakers players made the cut.

Luka Doncic rose one spot to No. 3, behind Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder).

“There’s a case to be made that Doncic has never been better, which makes total sense since he hasn’t yet reached his prime. What’s remarkable about his first full year with the Lakers is that he’s somehow efficiently averaging as many points as he ever has without the assistance of a reliable outside shot.”

Doncic is leading the NBA in scoring this season, averaging 34.1 points per game. He’s shooting 45.8% from the field and 32% from deep.

“For someone who’s already dominant in the paint, it’s silly to imagine how good this version of Luka will be once those stepbacks start to fall.”

The next Laker listed is LeBron James, who dropped six spots to No. 24.

“LeBron was a late entrant to this NBA season and to a Lakers team that had already learned how to function without him. That makes him the ultimate luxury – a god-tier playmaker to help facilitate the offense, the league’s all-time leading scorer chipping in where he can.”

James, who missed the first 14 games of this season, is getting 20.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 7.1 assists a night. He’s scored 25+ points in four of the Lakers past five games, including a 36-point effort on Saturday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Rounding out the list for the Lakers is Austin Reaves, who jumped one spot to No. 31. Reaves is averaging a career-best 27.8 points a game while shooting 50.3% from the field.

“Reaves can fit alongside almost anyone, but he’s also become such a potent scorer that the Lakers have to consider who, exactly, fits best with him.”
