Perhaps the most buzzworthy story for the New York Giants this offseason has been the return of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. While it's been swept under the rug by many fans who feel that Beckham is past his prime and will be a non-factor this season, he will be plenty motivated to finish his career strong in the place it began.
This is a different Giants team than the one he played on before. Jaxson Dart is the quarterback and Malik Nabers in the team's No. 1 wide receiver. John Harbaugh is the head coach, but he's probably the biggest reason Beckham is back in New York, as the two worked together in Baltimore.
Looking across the storied history of the Giants, it hasn't been a factory for all-time great wide receivers. When looking across the history of the team, who jumps into your mind as the best wide receiver the Giants ever had? You might have to think about that for a minute.
The team has had incredible single-game and single-season performances. You could also argue that the two best catches in NFL history were made by Giants players, one of them being Beckham, the other being David Tyree with the infamous helmet catch.
But which Giants receiver was the best and how close to the top does OBJ sit?
Where does Odell Beckham Jr. rank among all-time Giants receivers?
Frank Gifford, who played for the team in the 1950s and 1960s, was definitely the player who set the bar for all others to follow. Victor Cruz had the salsa dance and was an easy player to root for based on his status as an undrafted free agent who rose through the ranks. Plaxico Burress was a former first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers who later spent four seasons with the team and caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII.
But the team never really had a superstar at the position outside of Beckham, who is definitely the most talented wide receiver the Giants ever had. But where does he rank statistically?
Giants all-time leading receivers
| Player | Receptions | Receiving Yards | TDs |
| Amani Toomer (1996-2008) | 668 | 9,497 | 54 |
| Odell Beckham Jr. (2014-18) | 390 | 5,476 | 44 |
| Frank Gifford (1952-1964) | 367 | 5,434 | 43 |
| Tiki Barber (1997-2006) | 586 | 5,183 | 12 |
| Joe Morrison (1959-1972) | 395 | 4,993 | 47 |
| Homer Jones (1964-69) | 214 | 4,845 | 35 |
As you can see, the Giants don't have a storied history at the wide receiver position. From this list, two of these players (Barber and Morrison) weren't even wide receivers.
You can see that Beckham eclipsed the numbers of everyone but Amani Toomer, and he did that in just five seasons before being traded following the 2018 season. Had he played his entire career with the Giants, he'd likely sit on top of all three major categories.
However, that is not the case. Based on the facts that we have, Toomer is probably the greatest wide receiver in Giants history with OBJ right behind him at No. 2. How much more does Beckham have to do in order to take over the top spot?
