Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande return as the green-skinned Elphaba and the luminous Glinda, respectively, for Wicked: For Good, the highly anticipated conclusion to Jon M. Chu's two-part film adaptation.

The sequel deepens the emotional divide between the former friends, with Glinda embracing her role as the celebrated "Good Witch" and Elphaba becoming a hunted fugitive known as the "Wicked Witch of the West."

Director Chu emphasized the actress's determination for the project, noting their individual determination and how the two stars immersed themselves in their respective roles. In an exclusive interview with People, he stated:

"It was one of the most beautiful friendships to watch grow." He further added, "There could have been insane divaship, but they always put Wicked bigger than themselves, and I think that's a great sign of a great artist that they could immerse themselves in Elphaba and Galinda and they could find themselves within these characters."

Director Jon M. Chu's Wicked and Wicked: For Good, is based on the highly popular 2003 stage musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman. The first film adapts Act One of the stage show, and the second adapts Act Two.

However, the musical itself is a loose adaptation of the 1995 novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire. Maguire's novel is a revisionist and darker take on the world and characters originally created by L. Frank Baum in his 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and its iconic 1939 film adaptation.
