Tessa Thompson serves as one of the executive producers for the series and became interested in the project after hearing about William Oldroyd's involvement. In an interview with Netflix Tudum published on October 15, 2025, Thompson expressed her excitement about collaborating with Oldroyd, someone she had long admired.

“From the second I heard what Will was imagining doing with Alice Feeney’s brilliant book to the moment I visited the town where our story is set, I was hooked,” she said.

His & Hers will highlight multiple perspectives, using Anna and Jack's different views of the same events. Set in rural Georgia, the thriller is poised to blend Gothic Southern psychological horror elements with contemporary issues surrounding media, trust, and truth.

In His & Hers, the town of North Georgia is the backdrop for a nail-biting murder investigation that puts the two leads - journalist Anna Andrews and Detective Jack Harper - in a position where their loyalties are put to the test. When Anna returns to Georgia to cover an unfolding story, she is passionate and lends her experience as a journalist to further her investigation into whether there is something behind the death of the victim other than just being an accident.

As the lead investigator, Jack has his own misgivings about his own relationship with the victim and begins to doubt whether he truly knows the truth regarding the victim. Their public and private clashes reveal how one's individual stories can shape their perception of others.

In another interview with Netflix Tudum published on December 11, 2025, Tessa Thompson spoke about her first thoughts when she found out she would be starring alongside Jon Bernthal.

"I always knew I was going to be the ‘hers’ of the story. Once we settled on who would be our ‘his’ — and we were so excited about Jon doing it, and thankfully he wanted to — it all became a lot sexier and more smoldering," she stated.
