The Jets got run over by the Bills on Sunday, losing 30-10 to drop to 0-2 for the first time since 2021. Here are some thoughts and observations from the game:
1. The Jets have given up 64 points in two games and have looked terrible on defense. It is giving me 2021 defensive vibes when the Jets had the worst defense in football. The Jets lost four games that season by 20 points or more and had a few games where they just got run over (New England, Indianapolis, Buffalo). Sunday’s game felt like those.
But there is a major difference between this team’s defensive personnel and that team’s. That year was Robert Saleh’s first year with the Jets and the team underwent a drastic roster overhaul. They had two rookies and one second-year player starting at cornerback that year. Quincy Williams had just arrived via waivers and had not yet become the player he is now.
This year’s Jets have Quinnen Williams, Jermaine Johnson, a more experienced Quincy Williams and Sauce Gardner playing. They have star power at every level. They should be a stronger unit than what they have shown through two games.
