What happened to Sidney Crosby? Team Canada facing injury scare for all-time great at Olympics

1 hour ago 2

Sidney Crosby is one of the best hockey players in the history of the sport.

The Team Canada captain and Pittsburgh Penguins superstar ranks eighth in NHL history in points, and he even has on his ledger a goal that won Canada an Olympic gold medal.

In these 2026 Winter Olympics, with NHL players returned to the competition, Canada is trying to get another gold.

It might not be as straightforward a path that Crosby would've been hoping for, though.

Crosby left Wednesday's quarterfinal against Czechia in a moment that could change his status going forward.

What happened to Sidney Crosby?

Crosby left the Olympic quarterfinal with an injury early in the second period after taking multiple big hits.

On one shift, Crosby took three big hits, and he eventually skated off while putting very little weight on his right leg.

It appeared Crosby may have hurt that leg as he attempted to dodge one of the hits and instead sent his right leg off at an odd angle.

Trainers checked him on the bench first as he crouched over in pain.

A couple minutes later, the broadcast showed Crosby limping to the locker room.

Canada trailed 2-1 at the time, and Crosby's spot on the powerplay was filled by Macklin Celebrini, who was on the ice when Nathan MacKinnon's goal knotted the game at 2-apiece.

Hockey Canada announced during the third period that Crosby wouldn't come back into Wednesday's game due to a lower-body injury.
