TMZ Reports: Jill Biden’s ex-husband, Bill Stevenson, lost his wife, Linda Stevenson, who was found dead at their Delaware home following a domestic dispute call. New Castle County Police responded around 11:15 PM Sunday and discovered the 64-year-old unresponsive in the living room. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead. The Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating, with no charges filed. An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of death; dispatch audio referenced cardiac arrest. Jill and Bill married in 1970, separated in 1974 amid a contentious divorce involving his bar, The Stone Balloon. Joe Biden married Jill in 1977.

According to People Magazine, Jill Biden met Bill Stevenson when they were both students at the University of Delaware. In 1970, Jill and Stevenson tied the knot and remained married for five years before she filed for a divorce. In 1977, Jill married her current husband, former US president Joe Biden.

Jill Biden opened up about her first marriage and the impact it had on her

During her 2022 interview with Harper's Bazaar, Dr. Jill Biden opened up about her marriage to Bill Stevenson and the subsequent divorce, suggesting that the incident reinforced her need to maintain her independence.

The former First Lady said she had faith in the "institution of marriage" till her divorce, continuing that her marriage's dissolution hit her hard. Jill Biden further added that her divorce taught her the importance of being financially independent, a lesson that she passed on to her daughter and granddaughters.

"I knew I would never, ever put myself in that position again — where I didn't feel like I had the finances to be on my own, that I had to get the money through a divorce settlement. I drummed that into [my daughter], Ashley: Be independent, be independent. And my granddaughters—you have to be able to stand on your own two feet," Jill said.

Joe Biden reportedly met Jill during a blind date set up by his brother in 1975, three years after Biden's first wife and their infant daughter died in a car crash. Biden proposed to Jill on five separate occasions, with Jill agreeing the fifth time. They tied the knot in 1977.

However, in 2020, Bill Stevenson accused Jill Biden of allegedly cheating on him with Joe Biden while they were married.

According to a Daily Mail report at the time, Stevenson claimed that Jill and Biden grew closer in 1972. Stevenson alleged that he suspected the affair in 1974 after Jill Biden passed up the opportunity of seeing Bruce Springsteen to stay behind with Biden's young sons, Hunter and Beau.

“I know exactly when it was. Bruce Springsteen was going to play at The Stone Balloon and I had to go to Northern New Jersey to pay him in advance. I asked Jill to go with me and she said no — she had things to do, she had to look after Joe’s kids, Beau and Hunter. It was kind of a big deal to go meet Springsteen," Stevenson said.

He added:

"I had no idea she and Joe were that kind of friendly. Then one of her best friends told me she thought Joe and Jill were getting a little too close. I was surprised that she came to me.”

The Bidens did not address the allegations at the time.
