Joe Rogan has slammed President Donald Trump for his alleged controversial comments about deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner. He passed away on December 14 after being stabbed to death alongside his wife, allegedly by his son Nick Reiner.
In a December 25 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the podcaster criticized Trump's comments on Rob Reiner, describing them as unfunny and having no justification. He said:
"The Rob Reiner thing is not funny, right? And that’s like the same thing. It’s the same kind of thinking. And when you see it with no empathy, that’s when it’s hard to like [him]. There's no justification for what he did that makes any sense in a compassionate society. It’s no different than people that were celebrating when Charlie Kirk got shot. It’s same kind of thing."Rogan also imagined how people would have reacted if former President Barack Obama had made such comments after his guest, Shane Gillis, brought it up. He said:
"Imagine if Obama tweeted something about someone after they died in this way? That this person was a deranged, that person had hated Obama, and he wrote Obama like all caps. [...] That would be crazy. It just shows you how crazy it is the way Trump thinks and talks."Hours after Rob Reiner's death, President Trump took to Truth Social and mocked the filmmaker's passing. He claimed that Reiner had died "reportedly due to the anger he caused others through... a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME." The President also joked that Reiner had "driven people crazy" due to his "raging obsession" with him.
Rob Reiner was a vocal critic of President Trump and was openly supportive of the Democratic Party. After he was stabbed to death with his wife, Michele Singer, their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and taken into custody.
Filmmaker James Cameron criticizes President Trump for his post about Rob Reiner's death
Disney Entertainment Showcase At D23 - Source: GettyIn an interview with CNN reporter Jason Caroll, renowned filmmaker James Cameron slammed President Trump for his comments about Rob Reiner after his death. He wrote:
"It’s vile, it debases our entire culture to be that vile, and knowing that there are people in our collective society that are cheering for that. Rob was a true artist, and he stood for certain principles."Cameron then praised one of Reiner's most popular works, The Princess Bride, and said:
"And, you know, my family really enjoys “The Princess Bride. That’s a movie we can put on at any time; everybody knows all the dialogue. You know, he’s had an impact on so many lives over the years, and it’s just, it’s just a tragedy. But it’s incumbent on all of us, I think, to remember his legacy and to work hard on these issues of addiction with a little more compassion, I think, than sort of just criminalizing it and marginalizing it."Multiple popular figures, including former President Barack Obama, also shared their condolences after Rob Reiner's death. Obama wrote on X:
"Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action."Meanwhile, President Trump received widespread criticism about his comments after Reiner's death, including from Republican Rep. Thomas Massie. Reiner's political views and staunch criticism of the President seemingly contributed to such views.
