It's a last vs. first matchup in the NL East this weekend, but there will be plenty of motivation on both sides as the New York Mets host the Atlanta Braves.
The longtime rivals clash for the first time this season, with Nolan McLean and Spencer Strider getting the ball at Citi Field to open the three-game series.
McLean has bounced back with two strong outings on the heels of a pair of rough starts. The right-hander has allowed just five hits and two runs across 11 innings his last two times out against the Padres and Marlins. Wins remain difficult to come by for the Mets, though, as they lag far behind the Braves in the standings.
Most teams are, though, as Atlanta continues to boast the best record in the majors even after dropping a pair of tight games to the up-and-coming White Sox this week. Strider has been consistent so far, if not necessarily as dominant as he has been in the past. The right-hander has allowed exactly three earned runs in five of his seven starts since making his season debut in early May after a late-spring oblique injury.
The good news for Strider is the Braves usually manage to summon plenty of offense, with Matt Olson (.903 OPS, 19 HR, 50 RBIs) leading the way.
