MacKenzie Weegar received a bizarre ejection during the Calgary Flames’ game against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Tuesday.

The incident occurred during the second period. Weegar initially received a two-minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct after he skated past Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse and knocked Nurse’s stick out of his hands following a whistle.

While serving the penalty in the box, a frustrated MacKenzie Weegar repeatedly tapped his stick against the glass in protest, which led referees to assess an additional 10-minute misconduct and a game misconduct, ejecting him from the game.

One fan on X (formerly called Twitter) reacted:

"Complete baby ass move by him. What a complete moron."

@Sportsnet Complete baby ass move by him. What a complete moron

Another chimed in:

"Braindead decision from a vet… you’ve already gotten the 10 minute misconduct for doing it once, you made your point now sit down and serve the penalty… he dared the ref to kick him out and the ref called his bluff."

Here are some of the other top reactions on X:

"F**k these refs… they need to be fined for incompetence or ego calls," a third fan wrote. "I mean maybe give Weegar the double minor? But to boot him from the game?? Seems excessive," one X user wrote. "Meanwhile Florida players are allowed to repeatedly injure star players without even a penalty being called," another opined. "Dips***s in stripes just lost another layer of skin, soon they’ll be as pansy as basketball referees. And they already officiate like those crooked cops," another chimed in.
