By the time the 76ers begin their 2025-26 season, their arena will have a new name.

An announcement was made Tuesday that the Wells Fargo Center, the home of the 76ers and the NHL's Flyers, will be officially renamed on Sept. 1, 2025.

Once September comes around, the new signage will be revealed on the stadium. The new name comes on a deal that will last through 2031.

Wells Fargo Center name change, explained

Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which owns the 76ers, and Comcast Spectacor, which owns the Flyers and the teams' home arena, announced Tuesday that the Wells Fargo Center would be renamed to Xfinity Mobile Arena. The change will officially be implemented in September.

The press release added that Xfinity Mobile plans to "bring cutting-edge WiFi capabilities to the arena," and Comcast Spectacor Connectivity & Platforms CEO Steve Croney said Philadelphia fans' competitive spirit will be a "perfect complement to the Xfinity Mobile brand."

On Sept. 2, 2025, the new signage on the arena will be revealed, and the name partnership will run through the 2030-31 season. The arena's official X page released a video of how they anticipate the new name to look, including a purple glow for Xfinity Mobile Arena.

The renaming comes after the announcement earlier in 2025 that by 2031, there will be an anticipated new home for the 76ers and Flyers, replacing the soon-to-be Xfinity Mobile Arena.

In January, the 76ers announced that their original plans to move into the center of Philadelphia had been canceled, and they would instead be partnering with the Flyers to build a new arena in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, where the Phillies and Eagles' stadiums are also located.

Wells Fargo Center capacity

Wells Fargo Center (and soon-to-be Xfinity Mobile Arena) seats 21,000, a number that's cut down to 19,600 for hockey games.

Wells Fargo Center history

Philadelphia's sports venue first opened in 1996 and has hosted the Flyers, 76ers, Villanova basketball and more over the years. The Wells Fargo Center is a part of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex that includes Citizens Bank Park, Lincoln Financial Field and Xfinity Live!.

When it was first opened, the arena was called Spectrum II, as it was replacing the old home of the 76ers and Flyers, called the Spectrum. It has a number of other names through the years, including CoreStates Center (1996-98), First Union Center (1998-2003) and Wachovia Center (2003-2010).

Wells Fargo Center is owned by Comcast Spectacor.
