NBA insider reveals key details about ex-Maverick Luka Doncic's free agency plans

The Dallas Mavericks pulled off a shocking trade when they dealt Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.

Doncic himself seemed to be taken aback by the trade, as he was visibly emotional when the Mavericks honored him with a video tribute before he played at the American Airlines Arena for the first time as a member of the Lakers.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon confirmed as such during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show but also shared a key detail about Doncic's future in Los Angeles.

"I would be shocked if there's not some sort of extension this summer," MacMahon relayed. "You know, and what that looks like, there's a lot of factors, I don't want to bog you down with CBA minutia and all that kind of stuff. With what I know of Luka, and I haven't talked to him directly about this, but you know, talking to people who know Luka well, I think he absolutely wants to give the Lakers, like, he's fully committed to L.A. now. His heart was broken, but he's fully committed now to the Lakers, and you know, his goal now is to win championships with that franchise."

It makes sense that Doncic's heart was broken, as he was a year removed from leading the only team he's ever known to the NBA Finals and had developed a nice kinship with Kyrie Irving.

The Slovenian superstar also never requested a trade, nor were there any rumors suggesting he was on the move.

However, Doncic now has a chance to become synonymous with some of the greatest players to put on a Lakers uniform, including Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant should he decide to make Los Angeles his longterm home.
