Dave Portnoy has shared his reaction to Tom Brady’s revelation about cloning his new dog, Junie, from the blood of his old dog, Lua. Lua died almost two years ago in Dec. 2023 after years in Brady’s family.

Lua’s cloning was done by a biotech company in which Brady has a stake. The company, Colossal Biosciences, cloned the dog using blood collected from her before her death in 2023. Reacting to the revelation via a post on X, Portnoy wrote:

“I’m a dog guy and a Brady guy. This is weird as f*ck.”

Tom Brady’s revelation about the cloning was reported on Tuesday by People’s Bailey Richards. According to the report, the former quarterback said:

“I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family. A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed.”

Brady added further that the company “gave my family a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog.” Brady’s revelation is coming in the wake of an acquisition by Colossal. The company completed the acquisition of another biotech company, Viagen Pets and Equine.

Drawing on his own experience, Brady expressed excitement for how,

“Colossal and Viagen’s tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets while helping save endangered species.”

Colossal gained public attention when it announced earlier in 2025 that it had produced three dire wolf pups, bringing back the extinct species. Similarly, Viagen’s reputation is largely built on cloning Barbara Streisand’s dog Samantha after it died in 2017.

The company also cloned two puppies from Paris Hilton’s dog Diamond Baby when it went missing in 2022.

How close was Lua to Tom Brady’s family?

Lua was an integral part of Brady’s family with ex-wife Gisele Bundchen and their kids. It regularly featured in their social media posts, also appearing alongside the former Patriots quarterback in a 2014 commercial for Ugg Australia.

Tom Brady’s 45-year-old ex-wife had posted on Instagram to announce the dog’s death in Dec. 2023, sharing several photos of the pet with her family. She wrote:

“Our little Lulu, our guardian angel, is gone to heaven. She will forever live in our hearts. We already miss her sooooo much!”

Brady and Bundchen announced their divorce in Oct. 2022. They have two children, Benjamin and Vivian.
