Back in February, Aliyah Boston sustained a right lower leg injury while playing 3-on-3 basketball in the offseason Unrivaled league. It ruled her out for the Unrivaled playoffs, where she had helped Phantom BC to the No.1 seed, and Boston could not take part in FIBA Women's World Cup qualifying in March due to the injury.

There was concern about her status for the 2026 WNBA season, and the Indiana Fever never divulged specifically the nature of the injury that Boston had suffered. The All-Star big missed four regular-season games -- the first missed games of her WNBA career -- but she still averaged a career-high 16.1 points per game and helped the Fever to a third successive playoff appearance.

We now know however that Boston played through pain for the entire 2026 season.

Boston on Wednesday underwent right knee arthroscopy to repair her lateral meniscus, according to the Fever.

Boston has started the rehab process with the Fever medical staff, and Indiana will provide further updates on her recovery as necessary.

A meniscus repair can take months to heal, but Boston likely will be a full go before the 2027 WNBA season begins next May.

Boston, a four-time All-Star and a second-team All-Defense selection in 2025, has shot at least 52 percent from the field in each of her four WNBA seasons. She has averaged at least 14 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in each year while never posting a defensive rating higher than 107.

Given that she spent all of 2026 managing a meniscus tear, Boston's strong season in Indiana takes on another dimension. If she's fully healthy in 2027, the 24-year-old could be in line for her best year yet.
