WWE legend John Cena has officially retired from in-ring competition after tonight's Saturday Night's Main Event. The GOAT made a heartbreaking gesture before the end of the show.
After giving fans incredible memories for than two decades, John Cena will no longer compete inside the squared circle. In his final outing in the ring, Cena faced Gunther. Throughout the bout, the 17-time World Champion gave his all, and it seemed like he had the match under his control for the most part.
In the last stages of the match, The Ring General put Cena in a Sleeper Hold. The Chain Gang Soldier tried to stay in the match during the submission move, but ended up giving in and breaking WWE fans' hearts. This was the first time John had tapped out in over 15 years.
After the match, almost the whole locker room came out to thank John Cena. CM Punk and Cody Rhodes had something beautiful planned for their wrestling peer, as both stars crowned Cena with their respective WWE titles, showcasing their ultimate respect for The GOAT.
The Cenation Leader then thanked the whole arena before making a heartbreaking gesture. As he was about to walk out of the ring, Cena left his wrestling shoes and his iconic arm and wrist bands in the middle of the squared circle, confirming the end of an era.
