When Carlos Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the final group stage game of the ATP Finals, the Italian fans booed the Spaniard. However, things changed for the better, as the World No. 1 gave the Italian crowd a charming reason to appreciate following his recent win in the ATP Finals.
On Saturday, Alcaraz defeated Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets to set up a final date with his arch-rival Jannik Sinner. Following his victory in the semifinals, Alcaraz spoke in Italian to win over that section of the crowd. As a result, the Italian fans also erupted in cheers.
"I am very happy for today's match. Bravo! Very good!" Alcaraz said in Italian (translated to English).Irrespective of what happens in the title game of the ATP Tour Finals against Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz will end the year as World No. 1. He ensured his position at the top when he went unbeaten in the group stage of the tournament in Turin.
It remains to be seen how the crowd reacts when Alcaraz takes on their home boy in Turin on Sunday.
Carlos Alcaraz's reaction to another final date against Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals
Jannik Sinner will look forward to defending his ATP Final title when he faces Carlos Alcaraz in another showdown. The two have played in multiple finals in 2025, including in three major championships, and the latest match will add to their rivalry.
Ahead of the final, Alcaraz said (via ATP Tour):
"It is great facing Jannik. If it was someone else I wouldn't mind to be honest but it is great. Thanks to him, I will try and approach the match in a different way. More focus and I know I have to play my plan A if I want to beat him, if I want to win the tournament, so I think we will both raise our levels to the top, which is great for the fans and the crowd."Carlos Alcaraz enjoys a 4-1 record against Jannik Sinner this season in ATP events. Overall, in their careers, the Spaniard has an overall edge of 10-5. However, the Italian has won his last 30 games in an indoor setting and the crowd behind him makes him a favorite as well in this encounter.
The last time the duo faced each other was in the Six Kings Slam finals (not an ATP event). Sinner came out on top in that encounter.
