Warriors trade proposal sends Jonathan Kuminga to Cavaliers, lands $108 million defensive star

The Golden State Warriors’ frontcourt continues to be their weakest unit.

Al Horford, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Quentin Post aren’t a championship-caliber low-post trio, which should give the Dubs an incentive to trade for a big man who can make a more significant impact.

On Monday, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus crafted a monster five-team trade proposal that would send Jonathan Kuminga to the Cleveland Cavaliers and land the franchise a 6-foot-11 defensive star.

“With coach Steve Kerr acknowledging that the Warriors are a ‘fading dynasty’, the team trades to rekindle its fire by landing a badly needed starting center, (Myles) Turner, who can stretch the floor,” Buckley wrote.

“The Kuminga saga has been a long time in the making. With no extension last year, a protracted negotiation over the summer, and limited productivity within Kerr's rotation this season, moving the 23-year-old to the Cavaliers would provide necessary closure.”

“While the Warriors have worked to time their contracts to end with Steph Curry's deal following the 2026-27 campaign, the chance to add Turner inspires a change of course. Given his fit and the team's need for a postseason spark, Golden State takes the plunge with Kuminga and a future first.”

In Pincus’ full trade idea, the Milwaukee Bucks would receive Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, Thomas Bryant, Terance Mann and two trade exceptions, the Cavaliers would receive Kuminga, Bobby Portis, two future draft picks and three trade exceptions, the Warriors would receive Turner, Day’Ron Sharpe and a trade exception, the Indiana Pacers would receive Trayce Jackson-Davis, and the Brooklyn Nets would receive Kyle Kuzma, Cole Anthony, Amir Coffey, Buddy Hield, Al Horford, three future draft picks, compensation, and a trade exception.

Turner is a two-time blocks leader for a reason. The former Indiana Pacers stud has mastered the art of sliding over as a help-side defender and perfectly timing his blocks while rarely fouling.

Offensively, Turner is the type of stretch big man the Warriors need on their roster. The Texas product is a rock-solid pick-and-pop shooter who isn’t afraid to put the ball on the floor if his opponents’ closeouts are out of control.

Turner is averaging 12.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game with the Bucks this season, shooting 41.4% from the field and 36.6% from three.

Sending Kuminga packing and acquiring Turner before the Feb. 5 trade deadline would be a dream come true for the Dubs.
