The Golden State Warriors made a risky trade by acquiring Kristaps Porzingis, and now the focus is shifting toward what comes next. While the immediate goal is for the Warriors to win it all or at least get close, Porzingis could be a decent piece of their future.
However, Golden State’s decision to trade for him wasn’t just about adding talent for a couple of months.
At the same time, there’s no guarantee Porzingis stays, or is healthy. Free agency brings questions, as Porzingis should have multiple suitors. Head coach Steve Kerr made it known, however, that he’d like him back in free agency.
“I think the whole point in trading for him you know, a couple weeks back was, we get the end of this season to make a run, to see what he can do, see what we can do with him, pair him with Steph and then he’s an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season but he’s our guy.
“We get to show him what we have to offer him, we get to know each other,” Kerr said.
Porzingis hasn’t been in Golden State for too long and has dealt with some health issues again, but he’s averaging 16.5 points per game in the six games that he’s played in.
