Warriors predicted to part with Jonathan Kuminga, acquire $50 million beloved ex- Knicks guard

If the Golden State Warriors don’t love the frontcourt options available on the trade market this season, they could turn their attention to the enticing backcourt assets who could help the franchise.

A 28-year-old beloved former New York Knicks guard may not be a hot commodity at the moment, but Blue Man Hoop’s Tyler Watts believes that the franchise could soon express interest in trading for him this season.

“Head coach Steve Kerr loved (Donte) DiVincenzo’s time with the Dubs,” Watts wrote Tuesday. “He praised his energy, impact on winning, and ability to fill up the box score. None of that has changed.”

“The 6-foot-4 guard’s playmaking has improved since leaving the Bay Area, and he’s won at least one playoff series in three straight years. The (Minnesota) Timberwolves need a starting point guard and must give up salary to get a difference-making player.”

“Minnesota may not want to part with The Big Ragu, but it could be their only option. Golden State would love to send Jonathan Kuminga packing and bring back DiVincenzo in that deal. A rebuilding team has no need for a 28-year-old guard eager to win another championship.”

DiVincenzo got off to a slow start to his NBA career, but has cemented himself as a valuable role player since his rookie season with the Milwaukee Bucks

The Villanova product spent the 2022-23 campaign alongside Stephen Curry in the Bay, averaging 9.4 points per game on 43.5% shooting from the field and 39.7% shooting from beyond the arc on a Warriors squad that failed to reach the postseason.

DiVincenzo joined the Knicks the following season and enjoyed the best season of his young career.

The three-point oriented and high-energy veteran contributed 15.5 points per contest while connecting on 44.3% of his field goals and 40.1% of his three-point jumpers.

With the Knicks going all-in on Karl-Anthony Towns before the start of the 2024-25 campaign, though, DiVincenzo had no choice but to depart the Knicks and join the Timberwolves via a blockbuster October trade.

With DiVincenzo continuing his impactful ways with the Timberwolves and the Warriors having a mediocre backcourt, a reunion is a more realistic possibility than many realize.
