Over the summer, one of the most questionable moves the Golden State Warriors made, outside of not acquiring a superstar-caliber player to pair with Steph Curry, was undoubtedly signing Kristaps Porzingis. The veteran center has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, yet Golden State brought him in as a potential starter.

The plan was for Porzingis to start and potentially rebuild his trade value. However, none of that has materialized. Porzingis was unable to participate in training camp because of a medical issue, which turned out to be an autoimmune condition that could potentially threaten his career.

“Golden State has started exploring trade routes for Kristaps Porzingis, who is now seriously contemplating his future in basketball as he deals with recurring symptoms from the autoimmune condition termed as POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), sources tell ESPN," ESPN's Shams Charania posted.

In fact, there is currently little reason to believe Porzingis will play for the Warriors again.

“Team sources continue to express an extreme level of pessimism that Porzingis will ever play for the Warriors again, but he could end up helping the organization in another way, because his contract, which is only guaranteed for $3 million next season, could still prove to be valuable in executing a trade,” ESPN’s Anthony Slater wrote.

Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley also believes Porzingis could become a valuable trade asset for Golden State.

“They should still be probing for upgrades, though. They need to give Stephen Curry more help, and with Porziņģis once again stuck in a worrisome health situation, he seems incapable of providing it. But his $20 million salary (and tiny $3 million guarantee for next season) could be a gear-greaser for that kind of get. He can't have much (if any) standalone value given the constant availability concerns, but teams with big plans for the loaded 2027 free agency class could want to get their hands on that contract,” Buckley wrote.

It clearly does not look like Porzingis will suit up for Golden State again, and the Warriors could eventually look to trade him. This was always a possible way for his tenure with the team to end, but his health was not supposed to be the determining factor.

The Warriors are focused on building around Curry, and they cannot afford to rely on a player who may never take the court again. Eventually, Golden State will likely part ways with Porzingis.
