Following last week’s (exceptional) season finale, the Avatar: Seven Havens team has been answering a few questions about what happened and what it all means for what is next. And while there is quite a lot that we’ll hopefully get the chance to discuss in the near future, one of the most interesting tidbits about the series comes from a TV Insider interview with co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino and executive producers Sehaj Sethi and Ethan Spaulding, in which the group reveals that future seasons of the show will not necessarily focus on one haven at a time.

“Book 1 was focused on just one, but we’re gonna mix it up a little more as we go forward,” said DiMartino about the decision to focus on Ellora in the show’s first season. “So I won’t tell you exactly how, but it won’t be seven books long. I’ll just say that.”

In an interview with IGN, DiMartino expands on that idea by stating that “we’ll get through all the Seven Havens by the end of this series for sure” and then notes that the next haven Pavi will visit will be the Floating Isles. However, the current plan is for Seven Havens to follow a four-season structure, so don’t expect each of the other havens to necessarily be the star of each book.

While the crew hasn’t elaborated on how and when we’ll see the other Havens quite yet, executive producer Sehaj Sethi did offer a hint of what we can expect moving forward as far as the series structure goes.

“As we were making the series, we spent a lot of time building Ellora production-wise. And I think that’s where the girls are from. That is where Jae’s from. That is their home. It made sense to spend all that time there,” Sethi says. “I think going into the following books, we were like, ‘Let’s give this a little more of that travel show feel that you get with Last Airbender.’ So you’re going to get that a little more following through from here.”

The suggestion that future seasons of the show will feel a bit closer to the travel or road trip structure from previous Avatar series helps paint a picture of what to expect, but it is going to be fascinating to see how, exactly, the Seven Havens are revealed throughout the series remaining three seasons. DiMartino mentioned that each off the Havens has a distinct culture and style, though that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll be spending an equal amount of time in each of them nor that they will occupy a significant part of future stories. Still, it’s an intriguing structural set up.

In other Season 2 news, DiMartino confirmed that Book 2 has been recorded and produced and that work has already begun on Books 3 and 4. Furthermore, there will be a slight time jump at the start of the show’s second season, but it will only be about a “few weeks” long. So we can expect to pick up roughly where we left off whenever Avatar: Seven Havens Season 2 premieres. icon-paragraph-end
