LeBron James’ free agency decision could come any day now, and the good news for the Golden State Warriors is they’re still in the hunt for the former Los Angeles Lakers superstar.
Per NBA reporter Evan Sidery, the Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, and Cleveland Cavaliers are considered the finalists in the James offseason sweepstakes. If the Dubs succeed in bringing James to the Bay, they should be prepared to orchestrate a subsequent trade that would pair the future Hall of Fame forward with his eldest son, Bronny.
On July 5, Lakers Nation’s Trevor Lane stated that the likely asking price for the 21-year-old Los Angeles Lakers guard would be a second-round pick. This past Wednesday, though, Lakers insider Jovan Buha revealed a slightly adjusted asking price for Bronny.
“I think you’d probably ask for a second (round pick) and a player you think would fit with the roster, like a minimum-level player,” Buha said. “They could ask for it, (but) I don’t think they’re gonna get a first (round pick) for him. If that’s contingent on landing LeBron, maybe.”
In the Warriors’ case, offering the Lakers a second-round pick and Brandin Podziemski would, in all likelihood, help them poach Bronny from Los Angeles to appease LeBron. At the end of the day, it’s all about ensuring LeBron is 100% comfortable in his new home, and if that happens to be Golden State, the seven-time NBA champions know exactly what they must do to achieve that goal.
Would Bronny ever develop into a player the Warriors could rely on in the post Stephen Curry (and perhaps LeBron) era in the Bay? It’s far too early in USC’s product career to answer that question adequately, but a potential trade would allow him to share a locker room with his generational father for at least one more season.
