The Los Angeles Lakers have delivered on their promise so far this offseason, as they’ve made the necessary adjustments to their roster.
Most notably, the franchise sent two first-round picks and two first-round pick swaps to the Utah Jazz for Walker Kessler to give Luka Doncic his ‘A-list center’ for the 2026-27 season. While speaking to the Golf Channel’s Rich Lerner on Saturday, Doncic made his stance clear on the Lakers’ offseason moves with an eight-word message.
"I think we have a really good team,” Doncic said.
While the Lakers aren’t finished making moves yet (they have their sights set on Jonathan Kuminga in a sign-and-trade and have been linked to P.J. Washington and Matisse Thybulle), they’ve already made a strong effort to surround Doncic with a younger, more athletic supporting cast.
In addition to bringing Kessler on board, the Lakers signed a valuable three-and-D wing in Quentin Grimes, a tenacious combo guard in Collin Sexton, a versatile forward/center in Sandro Mamukelashvili, and an up-and-coming wing in Zhaire Williams. On Monday, the Lakers added former Philadelphia 76ers standout defender Matisse Thybulle to the fold to bolster their perimeter defense.
Shortly after the Thybulle signing, NBA reporter Evan Sidery noted that the Lakers have 16 players under standard contracts, meaning that another roster move is, in all likelihood, on the horizon.
Needless to say, Los Angeles is doing all the right things to appease Doncic ahead of the 2026-27 season.
