Warriors named best fit for $100 million four-time All-Star forward

Regarding contracts, the Golden State Warriors have two high-level assets to consider re-signing.

Kristaps Poringzis is one of them, as the 7-foot-2 center is set to become an unrestricted free agent after spending the second half of the season with the Dubs.

The Warriors’ 36-year-old four-time All-Star forward, Draymond Green, is the second one, as he holds a $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 campaign. If Green opts out of his player option to seek a more lucrative deal, ESPN’s Bobby Marks still believes Golden State is the best fit for the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year.

The deal I'd offer: Two years, $40 million,” Marks wrote Friday. “Green would lower his $27.7 million player option to $19.2 million and, as a trade-off, be given a second year worth $20.8 million.”

“The salary reduction next season would allow Golden State access to all of its $15 million non-tax midlevel exception. The new contract also aligns with the two-year deal of coach Steve Kerr. Best fit: Golden State.”

“A player can't be traded for six months after signing a new contract, so Green opting out and signing a new contract probably would come if Antetokounmpo is traded elsewhere. With the lack of sizable contracts on the roster outside of Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler III, Green's $27.7 million salary would be required if Antetokounmpo or another superstar became available.”

The Warriors are on record stating they ‘have no intention’ of shopping Green this summer (via an early-May report from ESPN’s Anthony Slater), making a blockbuster trade for Antetokounmpo more difficult to complete.

Things could change between now and the official start of the offseason, though, giving fans a clear reason to closely monitor Green’s situation with the Warriors this summer.

The four-time NBA champion has been an integral part of the Warriors’ success over the past decade, and if the franchise proves serious about retaining him by any means necessary, things could get interesting in the next few months.
