Jonathan Kuminga’s tenure with the Golden State Warriors hasn’t been ideal.
While the former lottery pick won a championship with the Dubs in 2022, and has shown that he has the tools to be one of the better wings in the NBA, he has too many holes in his game to flourish alongside Stephen Curry in the Bay.
Kuminga, who’s averaging only 11.8 points and 6.2 rebounds this season, is a subpar defender who frequently gets tunnel vision when driving and isn’t making steady progress as a three-point shooter (he’s connecting on 32.0% of his triples).
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Warriors have made their stance on trading Kuminga this season crystal clear.
“The Warriors are focused on moving Jonathan Kuminga,” Siegel stated. “They’re already working on several angles involving Kuminga… The Warriors will have a deal to move him before the deadline.”
Assuming the Dubs can find a viable trade partner once Kuminga is eligible to be traded on Jan. 15, the franchise will most likely move on from the 23-year–old after 4.5 seasons.
The Sacramento Kings appear to be the most logical landing spot for Kuminga, but additional suitors could emerge in the next few weeks.
It’ll be interesting to see what Mike Dunleavy Jr. and the Warriors cook up before the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
