Warriors get great Giannis Antetokounmpo trade news

The Golden State Warriors didn’t get the Giannis Antetokounmpo update they were hoping for over the weekend.

While speaking to ESPN’s Malika Andrews, the 31-year-old Milwaukee Bucks superstar stated that he’s committed to Milwaukee and wants to make things work with the 2021 NBA champions amid trade rumors.

However, on Monday, Third Apron’s Yossi Gozlan delivered great trade news to the Warriors that should help them feel confident ahead of their offseason pursuit of Antetokounmpo.

"It’ll be interesting to see how they handle Porzingis and Green’s contract negotiations,” Gozlan wrote. “Both can be extended to new deals now that could keep them trade-eligible for the offseason. For example, they could structure their first-year salaries so both can be aggregated for a max player like Antetokounmpo ($58.5 million).”

Simply put, while the Warriors no longer have the ability to dangle Buddy Hield and Jonatan Kuminga in trade talks, they do have the assets necessary to complete a franchise-altering deal this summer.

Would the Warriors be ecstatic to move on a franchise legend/do-it-all forward in Green and a frontcourt-strengthening center in Porzingis? Probably not, but with Antetokounmpo being a priority target for the Dubs, it would be a necessary move.

Of course, a deal would only materialize if Antetokounmpo made it clear he’s unhappy in Milwaukee. Still, it’s encouraging for the Warriors to know they have the pieces to pull off a blockbuster deal this summer.
