Vikings trade rumor may result in deal with Eagles, Seahawks, Patriots or Saints

Rumors pertaining to the Minnesota Vikings' interest in trading edge rusher Jonathan Greenard continue to pile up.

According to The Athletic's Alec Lewis, a Greenard trade is "definitely worth watching" out for, especially with Trey Hendrickson now off the board to the Baltimore Ravens following the Maxx Crosby fiasco on Tuesday night.

Lewis adds that the Vikings don't really want to trade Greenard unless they get a strong return.

"Definitely worth watching Vikings edge Jonathan Greenard with Trey Hendrickson off the board. Multiple NFC teams have been in the market for edge rushers. Vikings haven’t wanted to trade Greenard unless they get a premium return that meets their price tag," Lewis reported.

As much as the Vikings might want to hold on to Greenard, they may have no choice but to unload him given their cap space situation.

As of this writing, the Vikings are $1 million over the cap and have to get compliant with the salary cap by 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Minnesota will no doubt be able to accomplish that, but they might not be able to open up much cap space overall without unloading Greenard's contract.

Another issue with Greenard is the veteran is reportedly looking for a raise, which may further motivate the Vikings to move him.

Four teams that could have interest in Greenard are the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints.

There has already been a rumor about the Eagles and Vikings discussing a Greenard trade, and Philadelphia is very desperate for edge rusher help after falling short in their bid for Hendrickson, and with Jaelan Phillips leaving in free agency.

The Seahawks lost Boye Mafe in free agency and would've had a need for a good starting edge rusher even if he returned.

In New Orleans, the future of Cameron Jordan remains up in the air as the veteran is still unsigned. Meanwhile, in New England, the Patriots need help across from Harold Landry and bringing K'Lavon Chaisson back is no longer an option.

With the edge rusher market thinning out, the Vikings could very well get the premium price they're looking for in return for Greenard.
