Vikings rumors offer nuggets on possible pursuits of Daniel Jones, Kyler Murray

With the Minnesota Vikings in the market for a veteran quarterback as insurance for J.J. McCarthy, the team has been linked to several signal-callers.

One name we've heard quite a bit about is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, who recently received the transition tag ahead of the March 3 deadline.

As CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones notes, the tag doesn't cancel all hope for the Vikings landing Jones, as they can still make him an offer, but the Colts will have an opportunity to match.

But if that doesn't happen, Jones adds that the Vikings continue to be connected to soon-to-be released Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray.

"The Colts locked in Daniel Jones with the transition tag Tuesday, and as I wrote earlier this week that does not preclude a team like the Vikings to pursue him. But if the Vikings can't clear the cap space -- and because the Colts hold first-refusal rights for Jones -- the name circulating the strongest around Minnesota is quarterback Kyler Murray," Jones reported on Wednesday.

Murray was reportedly informed by the Cardinals on Tuesday that he will be released by the start of the new league year on March 11, which is great news for suitors because now they can get him without giving up draft capital.

Adding to that, Murray can likely be had for the veteran minimum of $1.3 million, making Murray a low-risk, high-reward option.

Murray would be a strong addition for the Vikings, as he'd offer great competition for McCarthy and a likely upgrade over the former first-round pick, who was the biggest reason why Minnesota missed the playoffs in 2025.

And chances are Murray will have his eye on the Vikings given the fact that Minnesota has a good roster and a head coach who has revived the career of quarterback Sam Darnold.

Of course, the Vikings will have to wait until Murray is officially released, but once he's cut loose, we could definitely see the former No. 1 overall pick landing with the Vikings in 2026.
