Canada's Victoria Mboko will square off against China's Zhu Lin in the group stage of the United Cup 2026.

Mboko dominated the ITF circuit at the start of the season in 2025, sweeping five titles in the first quarter. This inspired her to try her luck on the WTA Tour. She made the second round of the WTA 1000 events in Miami and Madrid, going down to Paula Badosa and Coco Gauff respectively in three sets.

Mboko made her main draw debut at a Major at the French Open, and reached the third round. She advanced to the second round of Wimbledon as well. She made headlines the following month with her victory at the Canadian Open. She upset the likes of Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and Naomi Osaka to capture her maiden WTA title.

The weight of expectations proved to be heavy for Mboko, losing in the first round of her next four tournaments. She got back on track towards the end of the season, wrapping up the year on a high with her second career title at the Hong Kong Open.

Zhu's ranking took a hit on account of an injury hiatus and loss of form in 2025. Ranked No. 493, she surprised everyone with her run to the fourth round of the Canadian Open. A quarterfinal finish at the Ningbo Open was another noteworthy result from her.

Despite a few hiccups, Mboko cemented her position as one of the tour's brightest young stars. She will enter 2026 on a five-match winning streak thanks to her title-winning run in Hong Kong. This will be her debut at the United Cup.

Zhu endured numerous ups and downs in 2025, though she fought back to return to the top 200 by the end of the year. A couple of strong results in the second half of the season aided her upward movement in the rankings. She will compete in the United Cup for the first time as well.

Given how each of them performed in 2025, Mboko will be the overwhelming favorite to win this contest. Zhu's 8-20 record against top 20 players on hardcourts doesn't do her any favors, and overcoming the Canadian's counterpunching tactics won't be an easy proposition either.
