Victor Wembanyama has made no secret of the fact that he would like to win the NBA MVP award this season, and he's certainly deserving.
However, Wembanyama's candidacy is in jeopardy after he suffered a rib contusion against the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this week, as the French Phenom currently sits one game shy of hitting the NBA's 65-game threshold for award and All-NBA eligibility.
Victor Wembanyama expected to play in one more game to secure award eligibility
But, here's the good news: While Wembanyama isn't expected to play against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night due to the injury, he is expected to play in one of San Antonio's final two regular season games to maintain his award eligibility, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
San Antonio's final two regular season games come against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night and the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night. Wembanyama needs to play at least 20 minutes in one of those games to become award eligible.
