Vandy's Mikayla Blakes huge stats in Paris lead Commodores to season-opening statement

Mikayla Blakes is a bucket.

And on Monday, the stage for her buckets was Paris, France.

That's where the No. 19 Vanderbilt women's basketball team opened the season, taking on Cal. And the Blakes show didn't disappoint.

Blakes finished with 27 points, four rebounds and three steals as the Commodores opened the season with a victory.

The highlight reel was just as impressive as you'd expect:

Blakes was all over the place, and if social media chatter has it right, she should've had more assists than she ended up with as she distributed the ball well and just didn't get finishes at the end of her passes.

This wasn't an unexpected outburst.

Blakes put up 40 points last week in an exhibition game against Memphis. Clearly, she can fill it up.

That's after a freshman season in which she put up 23.3 points per game.

This really might just be the start of a massive sophomore season for Blakes on a Vanderbilt campus where the sports vibes are really strong right now.

Soon, she might be the star of the whole place.

On Monday, she was the star in Paris.
