USMNT names roster for crucial matches as 2026 World Cup looms

Here comes the roster before the most consequential roster in United States men’s soccer history.

The 27-man roster revealed Tuesday will gather this month for the penultimate training camp before the United States heads into the 2026 World Cup on home soil in less than three months’ time.

Mauricio Pochettino’s group heads to Atlanta next week for camp and then plays a pair of high-profile friendlies against Belgium and Portugal.

The roster contains a few notable wrinkles outside of the core group headlined by Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie.

Gio Reyna, the mercurial midfielder whose USMNT tenure has been marked by ups and downs and behind-the-scenes drama, was called in, a boost to his chances of making the World Cup roster.

Antonee Robinson, the first-choice fullback known as “Jedi,” was included after having been sidelined for much of the past year due to knee issues.

Starting midfielder Tyler Adams, starting right back Sergiño Dest and striker option Haji Wright will be absent due to injuries.

Yunus Musah and Josh Sargent are the biggest healthy names left off the roster.

There are two new faces behind presumed No. 1 goalkeeper Matt Freese and backup Matt Turner in Chris Brady and Roman Celentano, both of whom ply their trade in MLS.

Noahkai Banks, a talented 19-year-old defender who plays professionally in Germany, was not named to the roster. Banks is eligible to compete for the U.S. as well as Germany, and he has yet to commit to one national team.
