Learner Tien had a heartfelt moment with his coach and US tennis legend Michael Chang's son while celebrating his Next Gen ATP Finals win in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Tien defeated Belgium’s Alexander Blockx in straight sets in the final to claim the title dedicated to tennis players aged 20 or under.
During the trophy ceremony, Chang's son, Micah Chang, shared the stage with Tien. The video of the same was posted on Instagram, showing the strong bond shared between Tien and Chang's family.
After the win, Tien credited the Chang family for their support in his professional and personal development. He also talked about how Micah has played a part during these tours.
“Since we started working together, him and his whole family have given me so much support,” Tien said. “Micah has been there for a lot of my tournaments… It’s always nice to have him around. It adds a fun side, it makes the matches and some of these tense moments a little bit more lighthearted.”1989 French Open champion Michael Chang has played a big hand in helping Learner Tien reach where he is today. Since joining him in August, Tien won his first ATP Tour title in Metz and a career-high ranking of World No. 28.
Learner Tien joins legends like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner after winning Next Gen ATP Finals
With the win, Learner Tien has joined legendary past winners, including World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and World No. 2 Jannik Sinner. The Next Gen ATP Finals was Tien's first ATP Tour title earlier in 2025. He was the runner-up in last year's edition, but he now feels content with finally lifting the title he was chasing.
“It’s very cool to be adding my name to the list of previous winners,” said Tien. “I think every player who has won this tournament has gone on to do very well, so it means a lot to be up there with those names. I’ve been waiting a year to hold this trophy… It feels great, especially after coming so close last year.”The Next Gen ATP Finals were not easy for Tien after he suffered an opening loss to Rafael Jodar. After losing the first set to Nicolai Budkov Kjaer to stay alive in the competition, Tien came back in style and won the tournament in the end.
