"Ugly and boring as usual" - Novak Djokovic fans blast billionaire brand over alleged outfit repeat at Australian Open 2026

Lacoste has come under fire from Novak Djokovic fans after revealing his custom kit for the Australian Open 2026. The Serb will resume his quest for a record 25th Grand Slam title in Melbourne. Considering he's on the verge of making history, fans expected the French brand to deliver something special.

The Australian Open has been a happy hunting ground for Djokovic over the years. He claimed his maiden Major title Down Under in 2008. He has since won a total of 10 titles there. The tournament will be his best shot at capturing the elusive 25th Major crown.

Djokovic will wear a plain green t-shirt and navy blue shorts at the Australian Open. Fans were left aghast at Lacoste's decision to design something so pedestrian for a player of his stature.

They took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their disappointment. Many felt the color scheme was repetitive, and someone even compared it to what Jannik Sinner wore at the French Open 2025.

"Um? are we allowed to say this looks a lot like the Sinner RG25 kit?" mused one fan. "same every year," wrote one fan. "Idk bout you, but I think I've seen this before," wrote another fan. "Lacoste so creative as always…" wrote a fan. "Boring per usual," chimed in another fan. "Ugly & boring as usual," said one fan. "I have seen him wearing this I swear," wrote one fan. "I'm a fan of Lacoste, but for real, @Lacoste guys, is this some kind of a joke?" said one fan.

Lacoste isn't the only brand to face the wrath of fans for their uninspiring designs. Fans were frustrated with Nike's Australian Open kits for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as well.

Djokovic was previously sponsored by Adidas, Sergio Tacchini, and Uniqlo for clothing. He has been with Lacoste for nearly a decade, making it one of his longest-running collaborations with a brand.

Following the conclusion of his five-year deal with Uniqlo, Novak Djokovic signed with Lacoste in 2017. However, the French brand only acts as his apparel sponsor, and he's sponsored by ASICS when it comes to footwear.

Even though fans have openly expressed their disdain for Lacoste's recent kits, Djokovic may not switch brands at this stage of his career. However, there is a precedent for the same.

Djokovic's former rival, Roger Federer, left long-time sponsor Nike for Uniqlo in 2018. The latter was in the twilight of his career, and eventually retired in 2022, though his last professional appearance was at Wimbledon 2021. The Serb could mimic Federer and find a new sponsor as well.
