A former WWE superstar and her tag partner reportedly walked out of this past weekend's episode of AEW Collision owing to supposed disagreements over their booking. The talent in question, Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize, have now shared their account of how things went down.
After making their on-screen All Elite Wrestling debut last month, Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize wrestled their first match in the promotion on the November 1 episode of Collision, losing to Marina Shafir and Megan Bayne. The duo were supposedly set to take on Tay Melo and Anna Jay in their second AEW bout on the November 8 edition of the Saturday-night show, but recently news broke that they had walked out of the tapings after refusing to lose their match.
Subsequent reports clarified that Nixon and Miranda had taken issue with the time that had been allotted for their matchup rather than with its outcome. The Girl with The Shiniest Wizard and her partner elaborated on their side of the story on their recent Twitch stream. The stars dismissed rumors of any "disagreements" and then related their perspective of wanting to wrestle a match with greater substance that would benefit them and their opponents.
Newell: "We turn up Saturday, hanging around, not told anything until just after doors open. We’re told, ‘You’re wrestling TayJay.’ Cool. We come up with a bunch of ideas and we’re ready. They walk away, come back, ‘By the way, it’s three minutes.’ Nobody is going to be happy with three minutes. We weren’t there going, ‘What the f**k? Three minutes? What the f**k?’ It was never that. It was, ‘Oh, we were told we were going to have a match of substance because the match didn’t happen. We just asked, ‘Is it three minutes?’ ‘Yup.’ "The erstwhile Tegan Nox went on to discuss their rationale behind refusing their bout against TayJay, and added that there had been no bad blood between them and AEW.
"We decided collectively as a partnership, a couple, a tag, as wrestlers independently, that three minutes is going to benefit no one in this match. It won’t make anyone look good... We said, ‘We really appreciate it.’ We were polite, we were respectful, we called our producer over and said, ‘I don’t think three minutes is going to benefit either of us. Not just us, but anyone in the tag team. We want what’s best for everyone. Respectfully, we deserve this to go to someone it can benefit.’ It went to the other two females, fair to them. There was never bad blood. We spoke to everyone involved." - said Newell. [H/T - Fightful]AEW sources and talent who were personally familiar with Newell and Alize were supposedly disappointed with the duo's decision, as per more recent reports.
Who replaced Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize on AEW Collision?
After Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize left this past Saturday's AEW Collision tapings, independent stars Hyan and Maya World stepped up to take their place and square off against Tay Melo and Anna Jay. The Brazilian grappler and The Queen Slayer secured the win against their opponents in just under two minutes, picking up some momentum ahead of their match against Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir in the ongoing Women's Tag Team Title Tournament.
