Triple H may have subtly confirmed John Cena's final opponent in WWE, as The Cenation Leader nears the end of his year-long farewell tour. The 17-time World Champion is set to wrestle his final match at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII.

At SNME XLI last weekend, John Cena appeared in a video package, announcing that starting with the November 10 episode of RAW, a 16-man tournament will commence, with the winner facing The Last Real Champion in his final match on December 13.

During the announcement, many superstars appeared in the video package, hinting at their participation. One of them was Gunther, who has been away from WWE since losing the World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk at SummerSlam 2025.

The Ring General is heavily rumored to be John Cena's final opponent. With the Last Time is Now Tournament coming up, and the Austrian star being featured in the announcement, Triple H may have confirmed that Gunther will return to WWE soon and likely face The Unseen 17 in his retirement match.

In July, the former Imperium leader retired Goldberg, beating the veteran in his last match at SNME XL. That said, the WCW legend might not be the only superstar Gunther retires this year, as he could also face Cena in his final bout.

The former World Heavyweight Champion is the perfect choice to retire The Last Real Champion. The Austrian star has built a noteworthy resume since arriving at the global juggernaut. Facing The Franchise Player in his last match would be a privilege for any superstar, but it also comes with the responsibility only a few can bear.

The Ring General certainly possesses the talent and credibility to give Cena a memorable final in-ring outing. That said, nothing has been confirmed for now. While Gunther is a favorite, it remains to be seen who emerges victorious in the Last Time is Now Tournament.

John Cena dropped a massive tease while announcing the Last Time is Now Tournament

During the announcement of the Last Time is Now Tournament, John Cena hinted at several massive surprises. The Cenation Leader stated that the tournament will include superstars from RAW, SmackDown, NXT, and even from outside of WWE.

With the field open to everyone, fans are expecting several surprises to unfold. It will be interesting to see how the tournament shapes up in the coming weeks and which names from outside the Stamford-based promotion show up.
