It's only a matter of hours before the WWE Universe finally gets to see the action-packed edition of Saturday Night's Main Event XLI. Tonight was the go-home episode of Friday Night SmackDown before the special event, where the few stars built their storylines for the show one final time.
Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes were featured in a contract signing segment before their title rematch. While the bout is expected to be close and picking a clear winner is indeed difficult, Triple H may have mistakenly leaked the outcome of the highly anticipated rematch between the two.
The winner of the Undisputed WWE Championship match may have been leaked
With the segment between McIntyre and Rhodes, the Stamford-based promotion may have subtly leaked that The American Nightmare would retain his title, beating The Scottish Warrior once again this weekend, as Drew gained the upper hand on the blue brand.
Did The Rock's "Final Boss" run hurt WWE? Watch Here!
It has been a long-standing rule within WWE that the superstar who gains momentum on the go-home episode usually ends up losing at PLEs or special events. In Drew's case, before his match against Cody, he was the one standing tall on the weekly show before Wrestlepalooza, but he ended up losing the bout. Therefore, he could once again taste the bitter loss.
That said, the angle proposed above is speculative, and nothing has been officially confirmed.
What went down on WWE SmackDown
During the contract signing, The Scotsman refused to agree to the terms and was willing to walk out, as he wanted to add an extra clause stating that if The American Nightmare got disqualified and counted out, he would not retain his title but would lose it to him.
General Manager Nick Aldis wasn't approving it, but Rhodes made his decision and asked Aldis to add the clause, and the two agreed. McIntyre continued his mind games, infuriating Cody by mentioning his daughters.
The Chosen One showed a glimpse of his game plan for SNME
The champion lost his cool and attacked Drew, and was set to hit him with the title, but the challenger ducked and laughed, letting the 40-year-old titleholder know he would get disqualified and win the strap.
That wasn't enough, as when the GM was having a word with the champion, The Scottish Warrior delivered a swinging Claymore Kick. Cody shoved Aldis, saving him, but took the hit himself. The former champion continued the onslaught, powerbombed The American Nightmare onto the table, and got the final laugh with the Undisputed WWE Championship in his hands.
All eyes are on the Triple H-led creative team and what they have in store for this contest.
