Top star needs to go on a Triple H-like heel run in AEW, according to backstage analyst

Triple H is known for being one of the best heels in the world of professional wrestling. His generational 'Reign of Terror' is an exceptional heel run in his career in the early 2000s. Many characters in the industry still take inspiration from that amazing run by The Game.

Backstage analyst Sam Roberts suggested that new AEW World Champion MJF should also go on a generational heel run like The King of Kings. Maxwell Jacob Friedman became the new champion by defeating Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, and Hangman Page at AEW Worlds End last week. He is set to kick off his title reign in the company on this week's episode of Dynamite.

Speaking on Notsam Wrestling, Roberts said that MJF should turn into a true heel in AEW instead of one who is partly loved by the fans. He supported his statement by giving the example of Triple H's heel work in the early 2000s, where he was unanimously hated by the WWE Universe. Sam added that Maxwell has the potential to recreate something like that in the Jacksonville-based promotion in 2026.

“But I think, like MJF, I’m hopeful that MJF becomes a real heel, not somebody people are having fun booing. Even at the height of him being his heeliest, when he was champion, people were still having fun booing him. I would love to see MJF go to that feathered-hair, world-champion Triple H era heel, where he’s a real heel, where the internet is convinced they don’t like him, the audience is convinced they don’t like him, and everyone’s united. We boo Triple H, we cheer the other guy. That was some of Triple H’s most amazing work," said Roberts.

MJF shares one of the biggest regrets of his career, amid comparisons with Triple H

At the age of 29, Maxwell Jacob Friedman has accomplished a lot in the world of pro-wrestling. But in one of his recent interviews, The Salt of the Earth said that not being able to face John Cena is one of the biggest regrets of his career.

Speaking on Mostly Sports, Friedman said that there could be a universe where a showdown between him and John Cena might have happened. He revealed that The Cenation Leader was his favorite wrestler growing up, and he has immense respect for the legend.

"Yes, absolutely. I think that there is a different world where that match would've happened. Unfortunately, it's not this one. I've said it before in other interviews, but before CM Punk, my favorite wrestler growing up as a kid was John Cena," said MJF.

Cena vs. MJF could have been an all-timer if that had ever happened. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how things will unfold for Friedman moving forward.
